Colombo National Museum
Colombo National Museum – Colombo, 00700. ~
Picture a big white colonial mansion, with a beautifully maintained lawn on the outside and a treasure of ancient Sri Lankan history on the inside. Or, just visit the Colombo National Museum. Look for the magnificent royal throne made for King Wimaladharmasuriya II in 1693 (in room 5), as well as the 9th-century bronze Bodhisattva Sandals (in room 2). These royal relics give you quite a lesson in Sri Lankan history. After all the walking around, you might want to sit and have a cup of coffee at the museum’s café on the ground floor, shaded by banyan trees.
