Stilt Fishing – Hikkaduwa ~
Portraits of fishermen on stilts might sweep you off your feet. Chances are, you might actually slide off a stilt if you tried stilt-fishing without any practice. But, with assistance from them, you could try your hand at it.(Or, should we say feet?)
Visit the spot where the fishermen go about their daily business, early in the morning and observe how they maintain a balance. They sit on the crossbar, and cast a line to bring in a good catch of spotted herrings and small mackerels. They fill the bag tied to their waists with their catch.
Once you’ve studied the fishermen’s posture, you could speak to them and request them to teach you how to find the correct balance and stay firmly aligned. Regardless of your success at it, share a few laughs with him and capture a photograph of him on stilt, if you wish.
