ESG
Our commitment to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles lies at the heart of our operations, guiding us towards a sustainable and responsible approach to hospitality. Through a comprehensive range of initiatives, partnerships, and community engagements, we aim to create meaningful impact, in the wider Beruwala community and beyond.
Biodiversity
In February 2024, we ventured on a groundbreaking coral restoration project in collaboration with the University of Moratuwa. By introducing numerous coral plants to the Beruwala Beach Reef, we aim to revive marine life and enhance biodiversity.
Biodiversity
Marking the World Environment Day and World Ocean Day, we installed the first ocean strainer in the Beruwala Canal, as part of the John Keells Group's Good Water Initiative. This modern solution is a significant step towards improving water quality and supporting marine conservation.
Biodiversity
We are committed to nurturing a greener planet. Our Earth Day tree plantation programmes are a testament to this commitment, inviting guests to actively participate in making a positive environmental impact.
Biodiversity
Our staff leads the charge in preserving our coastal beauty through regular beach cleanups. These efforts reflect our commitment to maintain a pristine, toxin free marine environment.
Waste Reduction
We are taking bold steps to reduce single use plastics. We have replaced single use products in guest washrooms with refillable ceramic pump bottles and introduced cloth laundry bags in Deluxe rooms. These changes reflect our commitment to reducing our environmental footprint.
Waste Reduction
We partnered with SLIIT students to conduct a thorough food waste analysis. Following their expert recommendations, we are implementing initiatives to minimise food waste, reflecting our dedication to sustainable practices and resource conservation.
Water
We treat all our wastewater using biological treatment and the treated water which undergoes a stringent testing regime regularly, is reused for gardening and flushing purposes. This has allowed us to conserve 60-80 litres of water daily.
Community Projects
Sara Midula is a movement towards sustainable agriculture. By providing seeds and fertiliser to families in Beruwala and Aluthgama, and conducting gardening awareness programmes, we are empowering local communities to be self sufficient and environmentally conscious.
We use LED lighting throughout the property, which consumes less power and has a longer lifespan than traditional bulbs. Sensor lighting is also employed in common areas to conserve electricity. In addition, we harness solar energy for heating water, significantly reducing the use of non renewable energy.
In 2023, we organised a blood donation campaign in collaboration with General Hospital Nagoda under the theme "Let's Donate Blood." Held at the Resort premises, the event aimed to save lives and promote employee well being. 29 employees stepped forward as donors, with a total of 115 staff participating in the campaign.
We deeply believe in transparency, accountability, and ethical business practices. Our governance approach aims to ensure the responsible management of our hotels and resorts, fostering trust with stakeholders and nurturing a culture of integrity and compliance. We're dedicated to maintaining a robust governance structure that aligns with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
